Get Info Update
In an earlier post titled "Get Info", I discussed the sorry state of affairs surrounding our search for an ideal time tracking and invoicing solution. Of note was the many bugs that we encountered while test-driving Studiometry.
A few weeks have passed since we gave up on Studiometry and I'm proud to report that Oranged.net Software closed all 12 of our tickets, all without a response. I can forgive flawed software if the developer is willing to take steps to resolve the issues, or at the least acknowledge them, but to completely ignore them is downright disrespectful.
iBiz isn't without its issues, but the developer actually takes the time to respond to bug reports and in many cases quickly addresses them. WIth this kind of interaction, iBiz may actually grow into a more reliable program and better meet my expectations for a time tracking an invoice application.

Looks like an expensive habit.
Hi,
I've just found your iBiz series and have read it with interest! I am currently trying to evaluate various Mac time/project managers and am having a hard time. Merlin looks okay as does iTaskX but not had much chance to use them in anger - although the amount of time this is taking I could have written a portable PHP/MySQL one from scratch!
I'm currently using WorkTimer while I play with the more advance ones!!
I don't suppose you have come across any that can do recursive billing?
Anyway, nice blog. Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words. WorkTimer is new to me. I've only tested iBiz, Studiometry, iRatchet, Billings, and a few others. iRatchet doesn't offer everything I need, but looks very promising. As a general timer iBiz isn't very accurate. We still lose time.
I understand the sentiment for wanting to write your own time tracking thing. I've wasted a considerable amount of time filling bug reports for the ones I've tested. I can't remember using one that was "bug free," which is sad considering I was only using them long enough to try them out.
If we ever do end up writing one, we'll be sure to pimp it here on the blog.
WorkTimer is incredibly basic but as such requires no learning and there is little which can go wrong - it's also free. The downside is it's a teeny bit light on features!
I'd not come across iRachet before and it looks good. It's the only one I've been able to get up and running with in less than 2 minutes! I like the menu bar tool as well.
PS How come I can only see all the comments in Blogger but not on your 'proper' blog page?
Re: Comments appearing in blogger.
Comments actually appear in both. When viewing the blog as a whole, clicking the comments link takes you to a Blogger page. If you click on an individual article the comments are shown inline instead.

Blogger has an option for comments to appear in a popup window, which makes it look more like it's coming from your own site. For the moment I prefer it not doing the whole popup thing, which causes the comments to load on the Blogger site.
I am a user of Studiometry for about a year now and I've had a pretty good experience. I used it at first on PC and then switch over to mac. I've had very few problems and when I do have a problem I post a ticket and have a reply within a day or two usually. Not sure what bugs you encountered, but it seems relatively bug free over here. Sorry to hear nothing is working out for you.
